YA Rocks! Young Adult Giveaway Hop
Welcome to our stop on the Young Adult Giveaway Tour! Heather Doherty and I write fast-paced YA paranormal/horror. While we each have our own solo writing careers (I write romantic suspense and adult paranormal romance and Heather writes literary and child lit), we do love love our YA. So here it is – 10 things we love about well-written Young Adult/New Adult literature:
- It’s wide open! (Almost) anything goes.
- It appeals to a wide range of readers, not just teens. I think that’s because our teenage years are seared into our psyches. We read a coming of age novel and we’re teens again.
- Well-written YA lit is engrossing, compelling and above all honest!
- It’s written expressly about the challenges experienced by teens/young adults.
- It’s wide open!!!
- All fiction gives us life lessons, but we think YA fiction helps the young reader mature. They have a chance to “live” multiple scenarios, watch the characters make choices, suffer the consequences of bad ones. They see the character get knocked down and get back up again. They struggle and triumph. Or at least come to a kind of clarity.
- It provides escape (not to be underestimated in this troubled world).
- It can confirm the legitimacy of your own experiences to see characters undergo the same kinds of experiences/feel the same emotions.
- YA lit has always pushed the boundaries of what is acceptable, sometimes dealing with very difficult or taboo subjects. Adults don’t always like that, but the fact remains that lots of young adults live with domestic violence, incest, etc., and why shouldn’t young adult literature reflect that? If not in literature, then where can we bare our souls, shred our screams and claw our way through?
- Did we mention that it’s wide open?
Three girls from completely different walks of life come together when their parents send them to a last chance boarding school. The only thing they have in common is the soul-deep pain each of them holds inside, from very different wounds. Each wants to find a way to escape the pain. A way out. And they do.
In the attic of the old Victorian house that serves as their residence, they’ve found an old diary that gives them the key to escape their pain, escape their very bodies. But that kind of reprieve always carries a price…

For me, YA books is the best way to forget about reality! Thanks a lot for the giveaway!
I love how many subgenres there are in it and the young love!
I love that though I feel too old for YA books, they are a fun escape. Some adult books to me are not enjoyable, and I am so busy that when I read for enjoyment, I want to enjoy it. So a good, fast-paced YA book is just the ticket sometimes. Not necessarily deep or groundbreaking, but enjoyable!
YA lit allows me to escape to a mesmerising alternate universe
Thanks for participating in the hop.

The YA books have more of a story line, and less graphic sex.
I love the characters from these books.. they have their faults, good and bad sides, I can relate and learn something from them! Powerful love stories ..
thanks
i love that the YA offer us a large range of possibilities so i can always find something that suit my mood and that make me dream
thank you a lot for the giveaway
I mostly read YA books because they’re full of hope and love and deep emotions! Thank you for the giveaway!
Reading YA books makes me feel like a young adult again. I get to relive some of my experiences and feelings when I was that age.
I love the imagination and the good writing in YA. Thanks for the giveaway.
I love the feelings associated with first love and the innocence of the characters.
I love that there’s so much possibility in YA. When you’re a teen, anything can happen and you can be anyone you want. You aren’t stuck int he routing of adulthood, but you’re also not an incapable child.
I really like that YA books let you be how you want to be let you feel the impossible and this is great for a teen:X. Thank you for the giveaway!
I love that YA books balance character and plot so well– I’m often on the edge of my seat with YA books in a way I’m not with “adult” books.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I like that they are about young characters as I, myself, am young and can relate.

I love YA because they’re usually shorter than ‘adult’ novels. Sometimes I just want to escape for a couple hundred pages without making a 600 page committment!
YA books is the best way to forget about reality, I love angels, vampires
YA books allow me to live through the characters and escape my boring life
I really enjoy reading about teenage-ish aged characters. There’s a lot of pivotal points in life that occur during that time, whether in a fantasy land or not, and I like to read about it, though when I started reading YA it wasn’t called YA at the time haha
Thanks for the lovely hop!
I love the feeling of first love and the way we see through different perspectives of different individuals.
Young Adult books have a completely different feel from normal books. They invite magic and fantasy in and are not afraid to test the limits. It is hard to find a good adult book with the same characteristics as some of my favorite YA books.
YA books are not burdened by the need to stick to parameters of the adult, real world. Anything can happen and they can really speak about society while not being preachy as so many “Adult” books are. Also I love dystopian fiction and the best of that is being published as YA.
Thanks for the chance to win!
I love YA because there’s huge range of possibilities and I connect more with the characters. YA helped me through some tough things when I was a teen and it’s helpful to keep reading those kinds of books. Often I find YA is also more progressive and deals with current issues, while adult doesn’t seem to branch out or delve into such things as much.
i love YA books because they are easy to read, have beautiful covers and full of fantasy….
i collected YA books..
thx 4 the giveaway
YA is every dream, every wish I once had. At that age, everything is possible. I love reading about how these characters find their places in the world.
It’s easier to relate more with YA novels.

I love connecting with the characters in YA
It’s an easy escape from the everyday world – also, I like to read them before my kids do – just to make sure.
I love YA books because they’re excited, and way more female-oriented than most areas.

I love YA characters; sometimes they seem more real to me because they’re not perfect. They’re flawed, like all humans.

YA books have innocence, self-discovery, learning inner strength. It’s refreshing to participate in one finding one’s own wings:)))
I love how true to life the characters in YA are.

I love the issues and feelings of YA books~ they’re so fun to read even if you’re not a YA and I think that’s pretty fabulous! Thank you for the giveaway.

the different types of characters
I love the action and charters of YA.
I’m an older reader, so for me, it’s a chance to go back to my youth and live it in a magickal and fictional way. What better way to relive your youth than through books?
I love the innocent love
For me, I think it’s because a lot of the fresh ideas and groundbreaking stuff is coming from the YA segment. I read a lot of “adult” fiction in the same paranormal/fantasy genres, and it’s a bit rarer to see truly original premises.

I love the sweet build up of YA characters, the love vs. hate relationship and the ‘love triangle’ presented in most reads! One of my favorites of 2012 was Poison Princess!
