CANDLES, CANDLES EVERYWHERE
All right then. If you've been reading along with this blog, then you probably realize Norah's the cool one of this artistic duo. While she has Death Cab in her CD-player, I'm the one singing along with the soundtrack from Hairspray (I saw the movie THREE times and went to a fan-freaken-tastic live performance of it at Fredericton's Playhouse). Chances are I'll be belting out 'Good Morning Baltimore' as I work around the kitchen later this morning, much to the cringing (delight!) chagrin of anyone within earshot. While Norah is up on all the popular TV shows, I'm curled up on the couch in front of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune most every weeknight (my youngest son Conor, who has severe autism/profound developmental delays enjoys that hour of game shows so I rarely miss that time with him.
So, in an attempt to up my cool factor ... I'll introduce you to a bit of my candle collection. Well, okay, maybe collecting candles and candle holders doesn't make me 'cool'. Maybe it doesn't vault me up there into the realm of adventurous. But I love it!
I love the wide assortment of colors and shades and combinations that are out there now (some have sparkles in them!), and yep, I burn different ones for my different symbolic purposes, or of course just depending on my mood or the mood I wish to cast into the room. I try to find unique and different holders: eloquent or bizarre, too cute, so old, utilitarian, ornamental, personally representative, or just oh-my-word what were they thinking? And they're all part of my growing collection (which I'll no doubt feature more of on this blog in the weeks to come).
The star and crescent moon holders on the ends of this display of three, I picked up on a recent trip to Nova Scotia with my family. Pretty, huh? And yes, they were flea market cheap as most of my acquisitions are. The triangle one in the middle is one of my many thrift-shop candle finds. As you can see, I've a green candle burning in that one, green being a very special color for me. Even before I became so enthused with candles, green was the color I felt most comfortable wrapping up in when I sat down to write.
So ... cool factor skyrocketing? Er, probably not. But well, in truth, I'm kind of okay with that. :-)
