OSCAR PICKS
We know you've been waiting for it, so here it is! Wilson Doherty's Oscar picks in a few of the main categories. Today, we present picks by the Doherty half of this writing team. Tomorrow, the Wilson half will weigh in.
Heather's picks:
Best Picture
I'm picking Inception. Over and over again! I loved this movie. Top to bottom. I didn't take my eyes off the screen for a moment. (At least I don't think I did. May have been dreaming....) That was a thrill ride extraordinaire, and well, not a smidgen of romance! Which I kind of like. Oh oh oh and any movie that puts the line, “Dude, check your totum” into popular culture just has to win.
Best Actor
Colin Firth. (Sigh) Yes, I know I'm still swooning from Mama Mia! (oh no, here I go again ... again). But Colin Firth is an amazing actor no matter where you find him. And he just kicks ass in his role in The King's Speech . So, IMHO, the Oscar goes to ... (tension, drum roll ...) Colin Firth.
Best Actress
Natalie Portman for Black Swan. This was a strange little movie. Not a bad one, but ... eh, not one I'd really want to see again. But undeniably Portman did a great job as the disturbed/obsessive/so-thin-it-is-SCARY ballerina cast as the Swan Queen. I sincerely hope she picks the Oscar up for this one.
Okay, Wilson, care to wager something?
